Cliff Nesting Swifts in N Ireland

In 2010 a report came in about screaming swifts close to an inland cliff face in County Fermanagh. A group of people were at a ?butterfly course and their field trip took them to a site close to Derrygonnelly. A few days later one of the committee members was in Fermanagh doing a bat survey and went for a look. On arriving the swifts were screaming by the cliff. They can be seen in the video below. Three nest sites were identified. Two more visits revealed 4 and a possible 5th nest site.

We have now got evidence of two more cliffs with possible breeding swifts.

Cliff nesters in Co. Fermanagh

On May 25th 2012 two members of the Northern Ireland Swift Group headed to a site in County Fermanagh after a tip off from someone studying peregrines. He heard screaming swifts. Feeding swifts rarely form screaming parties. It was a very hot day. After a long walk through heather we were greeted by a few swifts and them a screaming party of 6 birds
