What's happening so far this season or should it be what is NOT happening! The weather is awful for swifts and is a repeat of 2010 and 2013.

 

Breeders from gable boxes 7 and 8 have failed to return this year. Actually one from gable box 8 arrived for two days and disappeared.

 

The non breeders from gables boxes 4 and 9 so far have not come back.

 

There are a few singles entering boxes now and again. Because they do not have rings I'll never know if they are the non breeders from 2014. This will change this year when all swifts in boxes get ringed with Darvick leg rings. These are white with black numbers.

 

There have been several fights this year caused by swift neighbours entering wrong boxes and prospecting singles getting it wrong. A single was prospecting at the nest boxes at the back of the house where there are three boxes. Having settled on the middle box made the mistake of entering the left box. It hasn't been seen since. A single was using gable box 2 for a day but made a mistake and entered gable box 1 causing a fight. It hasn't been seen since.

 

It looks like the breeders from gable box 1 have abandoned for this year. It was last used by the pair on the 25^th and a single on the 26^th. They arrived on 14^th and 15^th May with their first egg due c.25^th A new [pair have moved in or amaybe on the breeders and a new mate
